Polonian Misadventures The hiding of Polonius’ body after the closet scene is often taken to be an attempt by Hamlet to ‘make the murder seem like the act of a madman’ [ 1 ]. Behind this, of course, lies a question about why Hamlet wishes to continue appearing mad in the first place. The Hamlet Home Page ~ Gary Munro's Hamlet home page holds a wealth of information including scene-by-scene summaries, a brief biography of Shakespeare, teaching handouts, and a discussion area. A Short Course on Hamlet ~ Ian Delaney's Hamlet course includes a copy of the script, questions & answers for each act, a discussion area, and more.

In Olivier's film, this soliloquy -- first of the seven that Shakespeare gives Hamlet -- is shot with his face in tight close up, the speech in voice-over, with an occasional spoken outburst -- nay not so much, not two! Very effective. Sometimes Hamlet talks inside his own head, sometimes he exclaims out loud.   A hamlet is a settlement which is too small to be considered a town or village. As a general rule, hamlets are rural, and many of them arise around a specific site such as a mill or a large farm. In some countries, hamlets are legally defined, while in others, the world is simply a term to describe a small settlement, with no firm definition attached.
